Our Custom-Designed PDU Box for Electrified Sightseeing Buses

We’re excited to share a significant milestone in our Bus Conversion project– the design and assembly of our custom-built Power Distribution Unit (PDU) box.

The PDU box acts as the central nervous system for the entire system. It plays a critical role:

• Monitoring battery health: The PDU gathers crucial information from the battery, including its charge level, current draw, and overall condition.
• Communicating with the controller: This vital data is transmitted to the vehicle controller, enabling it to make informed decisions like starting the motor and managing transmission.
• Powering essential systems: PDU also manages the power supply to crucial elements like the inverter, steering pump, and air compressor, ensuring smooth operation of the brakes and steering system.

Why build our own PDU? While readily available PDU boxes exist, we made two key decisions:

• Uniqueness: Finding a pre-built PDU perfectly tailored to our specific needs and bus configuration proved challenging.
• Empowerment: By designing and manufacturing the PDU in-house, we gain invaluable knowledge of each component and achieve 100% control over the entire system.
