Powering refuse compaction application of CNG trucks

Powering refuse compaction application of CNG trucks

Come and see a Scania biogas refuse collection vehicle equipped with a Joab compactor powered by a Banke electric power take-off. The vehicle runs daily in Sønderborg municipality and will be in Nordborg on June 29th for Banke’s 10+1 Anniversary Open House.

The waste collection industry is developing rapidly, with citizens taking ever more responsibility for sorting and recycling the refuse they produce. Almost two years ago, Sønderborg municipality introduced a new refuse collection system with household refuse sorted into nine different categories. This enables a much higher proportion of households refuse to be recycled.

To further improve the environmental profile of its refuse collection, Sønderborg municipality also specified that electric power should be used for the compaction of the waste on its refuse vehicles.

Urbaser, a waste management company, is responsible for operating Sønderborg’s new CO2-neutral refuse collection fleet. In total, 16 trucks collect household refuse in Sønderborg municipality. Of these, ten run on biogas with the compaction of the refuse driven by Banke TM64 E-PTOs.

The Banke TM E-PTO system is mounted between the chassis cab and the refuse compactor body. It is designed as a “plug-in” unit for recharging overnight but can also be recharged with an additional inverter or generator, making the system more flexible.
